HAMPLAB welcomes researchers interested in the use of mixed research methods in exploring health and aging among minority populations and/or marginalized groups. Specifically, we welcome those with special focus on  health disparities, health equity, men's health, cancer prevention, narrative medicine, identity, embodied health, and elder care provision.

Darlingtina K. Esiaka, Ph.D


I am a Visisting Professor of Psychology at the Union College. I received my dual-title Ph.D. in Psychology and Gerontolgoy from the University of Kansas. My research utilizes interdisciplinary method to examine social determinants of health (SDoH) and health disparities among minority populations. It addresses the critical void as to what is known about the influence of SDoH on health outcomes among minorities.

Daniel Schratz


Daniel Schratz is a sophomore at Union College majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in German. His research interests include combining disciplines like neuroscience and psychology to research issues like mental health and provide aid to those with mental health disorders.




Hana Young


Hana Young is a Neuroscience major at Union College, with research interests in mental health care across minority groups and public health. She hopes to attend graduate school and become a clinical psychologist in the future.



Alice Cheng


Alice Cheng is a Leadership in Medicine student at Union College, majoring in Biology and Psychology and minoring in Chinese. Her research interests include the impact of psychological and cultural factors on public health and health outcomes. She expects to attend Albany Medical College after graduating from Union College.

Aroog Khaliq


Aroog Khaliq is  an English major and a Psychology major at the University of Kansas, with research interests in cross-cultural attitudes towards health, pubic health, and eating disorders. She hopes to attend medical school and work with Doctors without Borders in the future.

Jessalyn is an Anthropology/Biology double major at Union College. She has a strong interest in public health. In her spare time, she likes to read and laugh with friends.

I am a Junior Psychology major and English minor at Union College from Boston, MA. My research interests is in Social Psychology and the psychology of languages. I hope to pursue a career in Marketing Research or Advertising. 




Johanna (Jojo) Sosa


I am a Psychology and Sociology double major at Union College with research interest in mental health among diverse populations and developmental psychology. After graduating from Union, I hope to go to graduate school and work with children.

I am a Junior Psychology major and Political Science minor at Union College. I am mainly interested in addiction, disorders, and mental health in society.
